Violence, Racial Slurs, and Crude Slogans: NYTimes Looks Back at a Year of Trump Rallies

Taking the scope of over a year of Donald Trump rallies, New York Times reporters chronicled a pattern of violence and violent language “not seen in connection with any other recent political candidate, in any party.”

A video retrospective was produced by Ashley Parker, Nick Corasaniti, and Erica Berenstein, highlighting instances of physical violence, racial slurs (referring to the president using the n-word), anti-gay slurs, anti-Mexican slurs, and repeated invocations of inflicting brutality and death on political opponents, namely Hillary Clinton

The authors note that many who attend Trump rallies “are polite and well mannered,” though nobody either on stage or in the crowd seems to express disapproval when the “crude slogans and angry outbursts” occur. Indeed, these displays have become inextricably bound with the Trump show itself.”
