Comic book movie fans, eat your hearts out. A new article is suggesting that Warner Bros. wants Leonardo DiCaprio to be newest film star to take on the role of Batman‘s arch enemy, the Joker.
The Hollywood Reporter heard from multiple sources that the studio is making a serious effort to bring DiCaprio aboard for their upcoming origin movie about the Clown Prince of Crime. The new report is fueling previous rumors that critically-acclaimed director (and frequent DiCaprio collaborator) Martin Scorsese is getting involved with the project as a producer.
No deal has been made with DiCaprio at the moment, and Scorsese’s deal to produce has not been finalized yet. The report acknowledges that Warner Bros’ chances of getting DiCaprio for the Joker are “slim to none,” but if he and Scorcese are signed on to the film, it would likely pioneer a new direction for comic-book movies
Representatives from DiCaprio, Scorsese, and Warner Bros. have declined to comment on the report so far.
The Joker film is expected to be a spin-off from other movies Warner Bros has done with the DC Extended Universe. Jared Leto played the Joker last year for Suicide Squad, and he’s reportedly not happy about the idea of multiple film franchises with different incarnations of the villain.
