Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor conclude their four-day media tour with a joint appearance in London on Friday.
Thursday’s stop in Brooklyn got ugly, and was widely panned by the media. McGregor invoked race, defending himself against allegations of racism after addressing Mayweather as “boy” on Tuesday.
“A lot of you in the media seem to be saying I’m against black people,” McGregor said. “That’s absolutely ridiculous. Do they not know I’m half black? I’m half black from the bellybutton down.”
In comments reported by Yahoo, Mayweather denounced McGregor’s remarks.
“I think that disrespecting my daughter, disrespecting the mother of my daughter, disrespecting black women, calling black people monkeys, it’s totally disrespectful,” Mayweather said.
He added, “Racism still exists.”
Mayweather, for his part, made it rain on McGregor, tossing $1 bills at the UFC star.
The contempt the two have for one another has seemingly grown as the tour has gone on. And they contempt they both had for their audience was on display Thursday. With more than 16,000 fans waiting for their arrival, the two were hours late.
Mercifully, the tour comes to an end on Friday with a stop in London.
