Melania Trump will deliver a speech at the White House today where she will officially announce her policy platform as First Lady. The speech will begin at 3:00 p.m. ET.
Unlike President Donald Trump, Melania doesn’t appear in the spotlight very often, frequently taking a behind-the-scenes role when it comes to her socio-political interests. Spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham has told the media that the First Lady will use her speech to re-affirm her commitment to tackling cyberbullying, the opioid epidemic, and other children’s issues.
“In this day and age, children are faced with several issues as they grow up. Mrs. Trump wishes to help the next generation by creating change through awareness on a variety of issues that affect children,” Grisham said. “As has been evidenced by the many events Mrs. Trump has participated in during her time as first lady, her focus will be the overall well-being of children.”
In terms of Mrs. Trump’s anti-cyberbullying campaign, critics are very skeptical about her chances of making a difference, seeing as her husband insults and disparages people via Twitter on an almost daily basis. Mrs. Trump acknowledged the critics back in March, saying “I’m well aware that people are skeptical of me discussing this topic, but it will not stop me from doing what I know is right.”
