WATCH LIVE: United CEO Oscar Munoz Testifies in Congress Over Passenger-Dragging Controversy
United Airlines CEO Oscar Munoz will testify before the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee in a hearing about the controversial incident that happened on one of his planes.
The airliner has been facing a public relations nightmare ever since a customer was forcefully dragged off of his flight last month in Chicago. Footage of the incident went viral, resulting in fierce condemnation and debates about overbooking practices in the air travel industry.
United initially offered an apparent non-apology over what happened, but Munoz and the airline eventually released new statements where they apologized to Dr. David Dao and expressed regret for the incident. Dao’s legal representatives told the media that they would file a lawsuit against the airliner, but they agreed on a settlement with United last week.
Munoz’s appearance before Congress comes after a federal investigation was launched into United as the episode gained media attention. Munoz will be joined by four other airline executives, and they will face a wide range of questions about airline customer service
