This story contains two of President Trump’s least favorite things: Senator John McCain and support for professional athletes and their right to kneel before the National Anthem.
TMZ Sports caught up with McCain today and asked how he felt about the president’s continuing feud with the NFL. McCain was specifically asked about how the Dallas Cowboys had a major demonstration yesterday when the whole team kneeled before the singing of the anthem.
“I’ve always hated the Dallas Cowboys and will continue to do so to this day,” McCain said.
In terms of the team’s statement, the Arizona senator and military veteran defended National Anthem kneelers and said “that’s their right to do what they want as citizens.”
This statement probably won’t help McCain endear himself to the president more, seeing as Trump is already quite upset about the senator’s decision to reject the latest push to repeal and replace Obamacare.
