Watch the First Trailer for Jon Stewart’s Directorial Debut

There’s nothing very funny about Jon Stewart’s directorial debut Rosewater. The first trailer for the film, which the Daily Show host spent last summer directing in Jordan, appeared online Thursday.

The film stars Gael García Bernal as journalist Maziar Bahari, who was imprisoned and interrogated in Iran five years ago after granting an interview to The Daily Show’s Jason Jones. It uses as its source material Bahari’s 2011 memoir Then They Came for Me: A Family’s Story of Love, Captivity, and Survival.

It’s a deadly serious story, but the trailer does reveal one bit of levity. During an interrogation scene, Bahari is asked where Anton Chekhov is. “The playwright?” he asks.

“You tell me,” the interrogator replies. “It is you who has listed an interest of him on Facebook.”
