West Virginia blew out top-ranked Baylor on Tuesday night in Morgantown 89-68. It couldn’t properly be labeled an upset, as West Virginia is ranked at No. 9 and was six point favorite in the game. Nevertheless, a win over the No. 1 team in the country is always worth celebrating, and Mountaineers fans did it in style.
They stormed out on to the court (which, for the record, is something we believe happens far too often in college basketball) as the John Denver classic “Country Roads” played over the arena sound system.
And then the fans joined in for the song’s chorus.

“Country roaaaaaads, take me hohhhh-me. To the plaaaaaace, I be-looooong! West Virginia! Mountain mom-ma. Take me home, country roads”
We fuddy-duddies here at Mediaite may be sticklers for court storming, but we are all in favor of fans singing songs en masse. (Exhibit A: The wonderful rendition of “Go Cubs Go!” after Chicago’s Game 5 World Series win at Wrigley.) This is something that should happen more often. Well done, Mountaineers fans.
