At the start of today’s broadcast of CNN’s The Lead, host Jake Tapper took a number of shots at President Donald Trump and the administration over the lack of evidence that has been provided to back up Trump’s claims more than a week ago that his predecessor wiretapped his phones prior to the election.
With the Department of Justice being given a deadline of today by Congress to provide proof of any wiretapping of Trump, Tapper recapped what has occurred while noting that we shouldn’t expect to see anything come out on this.
“Since the tweets nine days ago this charge by the president has been called false by the director of the FBI, false by the former Director of National intelligence, and not one credible, informed source that we can find in Washington has said that the president’s accusation is true,” he explained. “I am including Vice President Pence in the group.”
Tapper continued, “To say that members of the House Intelligence Committee are expecting reams of paper to prove the charge coming their way today, well, that would be doing a disservice to the members of that select committee. We as a nation have had to live in this farce for the last nine days.”
The CNN anchor also pointed out how defenders of the president have had to twist themselves into knots trying to make Trump’s tweets seem “somewhere in the neighborhood of possible,” showing White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer’s spin in Trump’s tweets today.
“Sometimes revisionism is so blatant it’s just a complete rewrite,” Tapper pointed out.
