Yahoo! News Washington Bureau Chief: Romneys ‘Happy To Have A Party When Black People Drown’

In an ABC News/Yahoo! online broadcast of the Republican National Convention, Yahoo! News’ Washington bureau chief David Chalian was captured on tape joking to colleagues that Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney and his wife, Ann Romney, are “happy to have a party when black people drown.”

“They’re not concerned at all,” said Chalian to the laughs of colleagues. Chalian’s jokes was followed by other inaudible comments made by a fellow Yahoo! News staffer.

The producer was referring to Hurricane Isaac which is currently dumping rain over New Orleans seven years after Hurricane Katrina devastated the Crescent City.

UPDATE: Yahoo! News has terminated Chalian’s employment. According to a statement given to POLITICO:

“David Chalian’s statement was inappropriate and does not represent the views of Yahoo!. He has been terminated effective immediately. We have already reached out to the Romney campaign, and we apologize to Mitt Romney, his staff, their supporters and anyone who was offended.”
