AllThingsD’s Kara Swisher is reporting some new details Saturday about Katie Couric’s all-but-official move from ABC News to Yahoo. According to Swisher’s multiple sources at the company, Yahoo is planning to announce the deal Monday, which would name Couric as the web giant’s “global news anchor.”
11/25 UPDATE: Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer has officially confirmed the news on Tumblr, welcoming Couric aboard as the site’s Global Anchor.
The report says that Couric will host a “high-profile interview show”–not unlike the daytime talk show Katie she has helmed for ABC since September, 2012–that will be prominently featured on Yahoo”s highly-trafficked home page. “That title could change, of course,” Swisher writes. “So could the deal or its timing, although it seems set now after months of negotiations with ABC News, which is both Yahoo’s online news partner and also Couric’s current home network.”
In addition to her daily talk show, Couric also currently hosts the online-only show “Katie’s Take,” which is shown on Yahoo and ABCNews.com. Before that, when she was anchoring the CBS Evening News, her online program “@katiecouric” featured long-form interviews and launched in 2009 with a 45-minute sit down with Glenn Beck.
