Veteran Colorado news anchor Kyle Clark offered his take on the state’s senior senator’s performance during Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s contentious confirmation hearing this week. Clark dubbed Sen. Michael Bennet (D-CO) a “cicada of confrontation” who awakens from a long rest to “unleash” on somebody – in this case on Kennedy during Wednesday’s hearing.
“Colorado’s Democratic Senator Michael Bennet is like a cicada of confrontation, relatively dormant and unheard of for years at a time. And then all of a sudden, boom, he emerges and just unleashes on somebody. He went off on Republican Senator Ted Cruz a couple of years ago. Remember that?” Clark began, adding:
And today, Bennet eviscerated President Trump’s pick to lead America’s health systems. Anti-vaccine activist Robert F. Kennedy Jr. RFK, Jr. Built his career on conspiracy theories and misinformation about health and science, and the cicada of confrontation was having none of it.
Clark then showed a clip of Bennet confronting Kennedy on some of his more bombastic and highly controversial past statements.
“Kennedy is one of President Trump’s most controversial cabinet picks and there are a whole lot of them. Today, Democrats and a few Republicans criticized his anti-vaccine activism,” Clark continued, adding:
Asked whether he stands to make money from lawsuits against pharmaceutical companies, talked about his past support for abortion, whether he will dismantle federal Medicaid programs. Despite those concerns. RFK, Jr. Does have support from some Democrats, like Colorado Governor Jared Polis, who cheered RFK’s nomination as an anti-pharma crusader. Today, Bennet urged his Republican colleagues to nominate somebody who can, quote, adhere to science.
Clark then cut back to Bennet’s fierce questioning of Kennedy, “You said, Mr. Kennedy, I believe matters. It doesn’t matter what you come here and say that isn’t true. That’s not reflective of what you really believe. That you haven’t said over decade after decade after decade. Because unlike other jobs we’re confirming around this place, this is a job where it is life and death.”
“Unclear whether Senator Bennet’s roasting of RFK jr is going to move the needle on this. Kennedy’s task is to convince some wavering Republican holdouts
