Dem Leader Hakeem Jeffries Rips Lindsey Graham: He Was in ‘Witness Protection’ While Trump Attacked McCain

Democratic Caucus Chairman Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) tore into Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) over his failure to rebuke Donald Trump‘s attacks against the late Sen. John McCain.

At a weekly House Democratic Caucus press briefing, a reporter asked Jeffries about Graham’s remarks, at another press conference, calling for investigations of the investigations.

“Lindsey Graham spent years as the sidekick to John McCain,” Jeffries said, “and then Donald Trump gets elected, and Donald Trump continues to bash John McCain in reprehensible ways, and Lindsey Graham, on the issue, is in the witness protection program.”

“So he should resolve that issue before he wants to lecture Democrats on our responsibility as a separate and co-equal branch of government in the House,” Jeffries added.

House Democratic Caucus Vice-Chair Rep. Katherine Clark (D-MA) then stepped to the podium with her own response for Graham.

“I would say to Lindsey Graham: 37 indictments,” Clark said. “Thirty-seven indictments. Coming out of this investigation. I think that he should proceed with caution if he really wants to examine this entire investigation again and put his president that he defends through thick or thin back in the spotlight with his involvement.”

She added that “we need to see this full report, to understand the evidence that went into this, but when this investigation yielded 37 indictments — many of those, at least six or seven of those the closest advisers to this president — we welcome that scrutiny.”

Jeffries then took to the podium again and listed the “major players” in the Mueller investigation — James Comey, Christopher Wray, Rod Rosenstein, and Robert Mueller — who are all Republicans.

“Was this a vast right-wing Republican conspiracy?” Jeffries asked. “That, perhaps, is the question that Lindsey Graham should spend his time addressing.”
