Donald Trump Says Steel Barrier is the Plan: It’s ‘Stronger & Less Obtrusive’ Than Concrete Wall

Early Sunday evening, President Donald Trump said that he thinks a steel barrier is a “good solution” for the border.

“V.P. Mike Pence and group had a productive meeting with the Schumer/Pelosi representatives today,” Trump wrote. “Many details of Border Security were discussed. We are now planning a Steel Barrier rather than concrete. It is both stronger & less obtrusive. Good solution, and made in the U.S.A.”

Earlier on Sunday, Trump also expressed similar sentiments to reporters about the planned border barrier after spending the day meeting with advisers at Camp David.

“We’ve been in touch with a lot of people and I informed my folks to say that we’ll build a steel barrier, steel, that it will be made out of steel, that it will be less obtrusive and stronger,” he said, according to The Hill. “We’ve been in touch with a lot of people and I informed my folks to say that we’ll build a steel barrier, steel, that it will be made out of steel, that it will be less obtrusive and stronger.”

During that same talk with reporters, the president also suggested that the move to steel was made to appease Democrats, who according to Trump “don’t like concrete.”

According to the New York Times, Democrats are “unmoved” by his steel barrier plans.
