Fox Business Host: Rep. Omar Poses a Threat on Foreign Affairs Committee ‘If She’s Going to Share That Sensitive Information With Our Enemies’

On Fox Business Network’s Trish Regan Primetime Friday night, guest host David Asman lobbed an incendiary charge at Rep. Ilhan Omar [D-MN], implying that her presence on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, where member have access to classified materials, poses a threat to national security: “particularly if she’s going to share that sensitive information with our enemies.”

His comment came during a discussion about Vice President Mike Pence‘s recent calls for Omar’s ouster from the committee, which is a plum assignment for a freshman member of Congress. “Ilhan Omar has made statements, anti-Semitic comments against our most cherished ally, Israel, that ought to be rejected by every American,” Pence said in a Fox News interview on Friday. “People in Minnesota will decide whether not she remains in Congress but congresswoman ilhan Ilhan Omar has no right being on that committee.”

Echoing Pence, Niger Innis, from the politically conservative Congress of Racial Equality (CORE), told Asman: “It is a national security threat to have this lady that has not only spewed anti-Semitism, but anti-Americanism as well, for her to be able to have access to sensitive national security material is a threat to all Americans.” Ennis later added: “It is a real serious crisis to have her on that committee that has access to sensitive national security information.”

At that point, Asman agreed and added, “Particularly if she’s going to share that sensitive information with our enemies.” Asman presented zero evidence to back up this smear, however, and instead brought up recent tweet by Rep. Omar expressing frustration at the ongoing, back-and-forth attacks between Israel and Palestine.

One of only two Muslim women in Congress and the only one to wear a hijab, Omar has quickly become a boogeyman among the right-wing, in part because of her outspoken criticism of Israel. Back in February, she publicly apologized for trafficking in anti-Semitic tropes after many Republicans and Democrats called her out.

Omar continues to be a favorite target among conservatives, however, and the victim of numerous right-wing conspiracy theories. Among the more popular is the myth that Omar held a serious of “secret fundraisers” with groups tied to terrorist funding. That claim has been debunked as false.

President Donald Trump has also singled her out for criticism. On Twitter last month, he posted a video attacking comments she made that “some people did something” in reference to the broader outbreak of Islamophobia after the 9/11 terror attacks by 19 Muslim men.

In the aftermath of that tweet by Trump, Omar’s office reported that the Congresswoman received numerous death threats.
