Rep. Steve King Blasts GOP House Fund For Supporting Gay Candidate

Rep. Steve King (R-IA) blasted the National Republican Congressional Committee on Monday for supporting a gay candidate.

“They sent money over to support a candidate in a primary in California who had a same-sex partner that they put all over glossy mailers,” King said on Monday night, in a video posted to Twitter. “I don’t know if they were holding hands or what was the deal. Man, that’s hard to write a check to those guys when they do that, so I’m hoping we get conservative leadership in the House.”

King’s criticism of the NRCC comes after its chair, Rep. Steve Stivers, condemned the Iowa Republican for his “recent comments, actions, and retweets.” Among those: King’s endorsement of a white nationalist running for mayor in Toronto and embrace of an Austrian political party founded by Nazis.

It wasn’t King’s only comment of the day that stirred controversy. Earlier Monday, he bizarrely said he hopes Supreme Court Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Elana Kagan “will elope to Cuba.”
