Steve Doocy Reports If Mike Johnson Isn’t Elected Speaker the ‘Game is Over’ as Democrats Plan Will Kick In

The co-hosts of Fox & Friends discussed the ongoing GOP House speaker debacle on Wednesday morning and the likelihood that the latest speaker-designate, Rep. Mike Johnson (R-LA), can actually make it across the finish line.

The discussion began with Brian Kilmeade explaining a bit about who the relatively unknown Johnson is.

“He’s extremely bright, he’s extremely smart. He functioned on one of Trump’s, on Trump’s legal team when he was being impeached. He’s a low-profile conservative. Evangelical Christian, was recruiting to get signatures to overturn the 2020 election, which would please the president,” Kilmeade noted.

“So the question is, there’s like 204 Congressman Republicans, when is everyone coming back like Derrick Van Orden still over in Israel? So you got to get to 217 because Hakeem Jeffries is going to have a complete team for him. But it looks like Mike Johnson might have the votes. If not, they’re going to have to go back to McCarthy,” Kilmeade continued as Lawrence Jones jumped in.

“They are saying there is over ten moderate holdouts that don’t want Johnson at all,” Jones noted.

Surprised, Kilmeade pushed back, “Do you think you’ve got, you heard the number ten? I thought it was just a handful.”
“Yeah, there’s about ten, a little over ten of the moderates that will not vote for Johnson,” Jones clarified.

“He got 128 votes,” Ainsley Earhardt interjected, adding, “All he needs is well, he needs 217. How’s he going to make up the difference?”

Steve Doocy then came in and offered his analysis, “Here’s what it comes down to. If he does not get elected speaker, game is over for the most part. And then moderate Republicans. I talked to some Capitol Hill staffers last night over dinner. Moderate Republicans are going to work with Democrats and they’re going to make the Speaker Pro-tem Patrick McHenry, they are going to make him the acting speaker.

“So they can do business through the third day of January of next year,” Doocy continued, adding:

Now, here’s the thing. This actually works in Mr. Johnson’s favor, because if they can get to 217 or whatever number it is today, it’s going to be around there somewhere. And then the Republicans will be able to do it without any help of the Democrats. They won’t owe the Democrats anything. And the Republicans like that idea.

“Their voters are not going to be too happy about that if they find out that they have coordinated a deal with the Democrats to get a speaker, not going to go over well with the voters,” Jones added.

“Well they’d get what they deserve. You know, if you’re not going to get be unanimous on anything, if you don’t understand you, you’re on a team, you’re not alone, then you deserve it. You deserve a coalition government,” Kilmeade concluded.
