Watch: Kirsten Gillibrand Calls Trump a ‘Coward’ Right in Front of Trump Tower
New York Senator and 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Kirsten Gillibrand took her campaign to Donald Trump‘s backyard, calling him a “coward” during a campaign speech just feet away from the Trump International Hotel & Tower in New York.
Gillibrand held a kickoff rally Sunday, and within minutes was slamming Trump on his home turf, telling the crowd that Trump “has tried to reduce America to its smallest self” by, among other things, “rooting for bigotry and discrimination and violence, closing our doors to immigrants and refugees, taking from the many to line the pockets of a few.”
“President Trump is tearing apart the moral fabric of this country,” she said, and added “He demonizes the vulnerable and he punches down. He puts his name in bold on every building. He does all of this because he wants us to believe he is strong. He is not. Our President is a coward.”
Gillibrand then asked the crowd to “Look up at that tower — a shrine to greed, division and vanity. And now look around you. The greater strength, by far, is ours.”
And later in the speech, Gillibrand ticked through a litany of political fights that she has waged, which she concluded by saying “I’m proud to have stood up to Donald Trump more than anyone else in the U.S. Senate.”
“I will go toe-to-toe with anyone to do the right thing,” she added, “whether it’s powerful institutions, the President, or even my own party.”
Gillibrand is part of a Democratic field that features a record number of women, and those women have turned up the heat on Trump in recent weeks.
And Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) has never been shy about attacking Trump, even suggesting that he could end up in jail before the next election.
