One of Russia’s few left-leaning, anti-Putin newspapers made a bold move Friday when it featured the words “Forgive Us, Netherlands” across the top of its home page, along with a photo of a line of hearses bringing remains from the shot-down Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 back home:
The apology from the Novaya Gazeta newspaper flies in the face of the official Russian position, stating that the country had nothing to do with the shooting down of MH17. Senior U.S. intelligence officials have only cited Russia for “creating the conditions” that led to the crash, stopping short of drawing a direct link between Vladimir Putin’s government and the Russian separatists who likely brought it down.
