The New York Daily News cover went dark for its cover on the grand jury decision not to indict NYPD officer Daniel Pantaleo for the choking death of Eric Garner, and used the collective pronoun for Eric Garner’s final words, “I can’t breathe.”
Palanteo applied a choke hold to Garner, who was stopped for selling loose cigarettes; Garner’s death was ruled a homicide by the city medical examiner.
The New York Post went with “It Was Not a Crime” over a collage of photos from the amateur video of the incident that most felt made the indictment of Palanteo a no-brainer:
