Baltimore Orioles Hold Moment of Silence for Victims of Capital Gazette Shooting

The Baltimore Orioles held a moment of silence for those slain in the mass shooting at the Capital Gazette on Thursday.

“In honor of these victims and in support of their loved ones, we ask that you join us now in observing a reflective moment of silence for Gerald Fischman, Rob Hiaasen, John McNamara, Rebecca Smith and Wendi Winters,” the loudspeaker announced, according to Eduardo Encina, a reporter for the Baltimore Sun.

Encina tweeted out the video and the photo and reported the story for his paper.

A copy of the Capital Gazette, which was published by staffers just one day after the deadly attack and lilies were also placed in the press box to honor the victims.

On Thursday, five staffers of the newspaper — including editors, writers and a new member of the team — were shot dead at their job by a man who reportedly sued the paper for defamation.

Acting Anne Arundel County police chief William Krampf called it a “targeted attack.”
