Stephen A. Smith called on CNN to provide evidence to back up its claims that Aaron Rodgers denied the events of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.
Just a day after it was revealed that Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was considering Rodgers as his running mate, CNN published the report. In it, network anchor Pamela Brown revealed details of a conversation she had with Rodgers at the 2013 Kentucky Derby. When she identified herself, Rodgers began attacking the media for “covering up” important stories. He then claimed Sandy Hook was a “government inside job.” In another conversation with an unnamed individual, Rodgers claimed the shooting “never happened and the parents were actors.”
In his response to the report, Rodgers said he has “never been of the opinion that the events did not take place.”
Now, Smith said in a recent episode of The Stephen A. Smith Show, the responsibility falls on CNN to produce evidence.
“In the interest of fairness,” Smith said, “I would ask this of the CNN reporter and CNN as the network: Why are we hearing about this just now if this is what transpired in 2013? How is that happening? If you’re in the news business, how is something relevant 12 years later when you never mentioned it 12 years ago?
