New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady added onto the pile of criticisms President Donald Trump has received from NFL players over his comments on athletes who protest the national anthem.

Brady, a known Trump-ally who the president himself calls a “good friend,” didn’t hold back in denouncing the controversial remarks. While appearing this morning on Boston sports radio show Kirk Callahan, Brady articulated his views on the issue:

“Yeah, I certainly disagree with what he said. I thought it was just divisive. Like I said, I just want to support my teammates. I am never one to say, ‘Oh, that is wrong. That is right.’ I do believe in what I believe in. I believe in bringing people together and respect and love and trust. Those are the values that my parents instilled in me. That is how I try and live every day. I have been blessed to be in locker rooms with guys all over the United States over the course of my career… The one thing about football is it brings so many guys together.”

The controversial comments Brady refers to came during an Alabama rally where Trump said he’d “love” to see an NFL owner fire “son of a bitch” players who protest the national anthem.

While some of Brady’s teammates protested the anthem by kneeling, the quarterback and other members of the team opted to link-arms and stand for

the pregame Star Spangled Banner on Sunday.
