The #9 North Carolina fell to the unranked Miami last during Tar Heels senior night, as the Hurricanes took the victory in Chapel Hill with a wild, long range buzzer-beating three pointer.
Miami senior Ja’Quan Newton, who dropped 15 points during the night, caught the inbound pass and thew up a running shot from well-past the three point arch just as time expired.
However, there was some controversy online over whether or not Newton traveled or just used his “gather step” on the shot, as some claimed he took one-too-man steps on the play after picking up his dribble.

Others noted the play was oddly reminiscent of the shot that clinched Villanova’s 2016 National Championship game — considering the play from two years ago ended in similar dramatic fashion and was also against a UNC team.
Regardless, Miami took home the crazy win and ramped-up excitement as NCAA basketball fans prep for another year of March Madness — even amid the paying-players controversy and FBI investigations that have mired the entire season.
