Sinéad O’Connor once branded Donald Trump a “biblical devil,” and now the late singer’s estate is demanding he stop playing her hit, “Nothing Compares 2 U,” at his MAGA rallies.

The estate joined Chrysalis Records to issue the following statement to the Associated Press:

Throughout her life, it is well known that Sinéad O’Connor lived by a fierce moral code defined by honesty, kindness, fairness and decency towards her fellow human beings. It was with outrage therefore that we learned that Donald Trump has been using her iconic performance of “Nothing Compares 2 U” at his political rallies.

It is no exaggeration to say that Sinéad would have been disgusted, hurt and insulted to have her work misrepresented in this way by someone whom she herself referred to as a “biblical devil.” As the guardians of her legacy, we demand that Donald Trump and his associates desist from using her music immediately.

O’Connor’s estate joins a long list of musicians dating back to 2015 who have demanded Trump cease playing their music. They include Neil Young (“Rockin’ In The Free World”), R.E.M. ( “It’s the End of the World as We Know It”), Adele (“Skyfall” and “Rolling in the Deep”), Elton John (“Rocketman”), Tom Petty (“I Won’t Back Down”), and Queen (“We Are The Champions”).

When Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler requested Trump stop playing his songs, Trump tweeted, “Steven Tyler got more publicity on his song request than he’s gotten in ten years. Good for him!”

O’Connor often spoke of her traumatic childhood in Ireland and her struggles with mental health. She died unexpectedly from “natural causes” in 2023 at the age of 56.
