CNN’s Toobin: Investigation Into Russia Probe Origins Sends ‘Chilling Message’ to People in FBI, DOJ

CNN’s Jeffrey Toobin said tonight that Attorney General Bill Barr assigning a U.S. attorney to oversee the investigation into the origins of the Russia probe sends a “chilling message.”

“Think about the chilling message it sends to career non-political people in the FBI and the Justice Department,” he told Anderson Cooper. “What it means is if you defy the president’s wishes, his political appointees like the attorney general, they won’t initiate one investigation, they won’t initiate two, three investigations of you for doing your job.”

He called this a “completely unnecessary” investigation that’s going to be “harassing people” for doing their jobs.

Former Trump campaign strategist David Urban argued that Americans do deserve an answer on what prompted this whole thing in the first place.

At one point Toobin and Urban clashed over the investigation and the impact of Russian interference.
