Dan Abrams Blasts Rudy Giuliani’s Ukraine Oppo Campaign: He’s ‘Now Become Michael Cohen… the President’s Fixer’

On Sirius XM’s Where Politics Meets The Law radio show on Friday, Mediaite founder Dan Abrams railed against Rudy Giuliani, President Donald Trump’s attorney, for a planned trip to Ukraine that would undermine the Mueller report and damage the presidential prospects of former Vice President Joe Biden.

“He’s basically admitting that he’s creating the next scandal,” Abrams said. “Rudy Giuliani has now become Michael Cohen, Rudy Giuliani is now the president’s fixer.”

Cohen, the longtime personal attorney of Trump who once said he’d “take a bullet” for the businessman, infamously coordinated with then-candidate Trump during the 2016 campaign to arrange secret payoffs to two women who had alleged affairs with Trump. Cohen was later convicted for tax evasion and lying to Congress and began serving a three-year federal prison sentence earlier this week.

“This is truly astonishing,” Abrams said, referring to a blockbuster New York Times story about a planned trip to Ukraine trip by Giuliani, the acknowledged purpose of which he said was: “We’re meddling in an investigation.”

Calling it “one of the worst things that I have seen,” Abrams pointed out that Giuliani is unabashedly undertaking a campaign to use foreign influence to potentially affect the 2020 election in Trump’s favor at the same time that he’s trying to dismiss the investigation into how foreign influence helped Trump triumph in the 2016 presidential election.

Recalling Giuliani’s two terms as mayor of New York City and his inspiring response and leadership after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Abrams bemoaned how far the reputation of the former U.S. Attorney had fallen, even noting how he in the past had voted for Giuliani over his Democratic opponents. “His legacy is now going to be as a lawless toady for President Trump,” Abrams concluded. “That’s really sad.”
