John Oliver Obliterates Trump For Tapping ‘Pizza Maker … and Alleged Sexual Harasser’ Herman Cain to Fed
Count John Oliver among those not at all impressed with President Donald Trump‘s choice of former Godfather’s Pizza CEO and GOP Presidential candidate Herman Cain for the Federal Reserve Board.
In a scathing opening monologue on Last Week Tonight Sunday, Oliver shredded Trump’s pick — who has been accused by multiple women of sexual misconduct.
“You think the résumé of a pizza maker, talk-show host and alleged sexual harasser would be pretty unusual for the Fed?” Oliver said. “Well, why don’t you tell that to the rest of the board: six Mario Batalis.”
He added, “But it is true. Picking Herman Cain for the Federal Reserve is bonkers.”
Oliver also zeroed in on Stephen Moore — a longtime CNN contributor whom Trump selected for another seat on the Fed.
“Instead of spending time breaking down why their economic views should be disqualifying, I’d like to make a point that requires no knowledge of monetary policy whatsoever,” Oliver said. “And that is that these two guys are goofs. They’re just a pair of dangerously goofy goofs. And this isn’t actually a job where that’s okay.”
Oliver also played comments from Sarah Bloom Raskin, the former U.S. deputy secretary of the Treasury — who essentially said that awarding positions to political cronies in other departments is far more palatable than giving them seats on the Fed.
“You don’t fuck around with the Fed,” Oliver said.
