Morning Joe: ‘Bigoted’ Trump Made ‘Same Anti-Semitic’ Dual Loyalty Trope as Rep. Omar

Morning Joe addresses statements made by President Donald Trump Saturday night in a speech to the Republican Jewish Coalition that, in their esteem, was just as offensive to Jewish-American as the dual loyalty comments made by Rep. Ilhan Omar last month.

Mika Brzezinski introduced a short clip of Trump’s speech by saying  “Trump implied dual loyalty, which is the same anti-Semitic trope for which congresswoman Omar has been criticized.”

Producers then aired Trump saying ” I stood with prime minister Netanyahu, Benjamin Netanyahu, I stood with your prime minister at the White House to recognize Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights. The Golan Heights is something I’ve been hearing about for a long time.”

Shortly after, the American Jewish Committee noted the “your prime minister” comment and tweeted:

Joe Scarborough later added “When he says, ‘Your prime minister,’  he’s being bigoted. That is, again, the president who actually reveals himself to believe that Jews in America have dual loyalty and if you are a Jew in the United States, that your prime minister must be Benjamin Netanyahu. Wildly offensive. It’s the same anti-Semitic trope that people were attacking Congresswoman Omar.”

Omar made a similar comment of dual loyalty which many viewed as anti-Semitic and led to a Congressional vote condemning hate. It is not clear that anything will come from this Trump comment, though Republicans were outraged at what they saw as Omar’s offensive comments.
