Stephanie Ruhle: Trump Might Be Running for Reelection Only to Avoid Being Indicted
MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle seems to believe President Donald Trump has no reason to run for reelection in 2020, other than a fear of getting indicted otherwise.
On Wednesday morning, Ruhle cited a New York Times article that claimed anonymous sources close to the President were predicting he may be running for reelection in part to avoid getting in legal trouble because of Special Counsel Robert Mueller‘s investigation on him.
“Let’s talk about how twisted that is, okay? He would run because if he’s a private citizen, he’ll get indicted,” said Ruhle, as the Times‘ Bret Stephen agreed.
Stephens said as a president, Trump is protected from criminal activities he potentially did as a private citizen, such as hush money paid to porn star Stormy Daniels and ex-Playboy model Karen McDougal during his campaign. Stephens said his offenses are impeachable, but that he’s more likely to get punished for them as a private citizen.
“I’m just going to become president again because I don’t want to get indicted. That’s a twist,” said Ruhle, as Stephens responded: “Vladimir Putin has thought the same thing many times.”
