The campaign of former President Donald Trump issued a statement on Monday night demanding the Republican National Committee cancel all remaining GOP presidential primary debates this cycle.

Trump boycotted the first two debates and has given every indication that he has no intention of attending any future debate. Not content with merely ignoring these contests, Trump wants them extinguished altogether. In a statement issued by advisers Susie Wiles and Chris LaCivita, the campaign said:

The Republican National Committee should immediately cancel the upcoming debate in Miami and end all future debates in order to refocus its manpower and money on preventing Democrats’ efforts to steal the 2024 election.Anything less, along with other reasons not to cancel, are an admission to the grassroots that their concerns about voter integrity are not taken seriously and national Republicans are more concerned about helping Joe Biden than ensuring a safe and secure election.

Trump has falsely maintained the 2020 election was rigged against him. In the wake of that contest, he initiated a pressure campaign on Republican officials in states he lost in

a vain attempt to stay in power. Those machinations earned him two criminal indictments – one in federal court in Washington, D.C., and one in Fulton County, Georgia.

Despite his absence from the debates and the four indictments he currently faces, the former president is the runaway favorite to win the Republican nomination.

Trump is also being sued by New York Attorney General Letitia James, who alleges he reaped $100 million by lying about the worth of his real estate holdings. That trial began Monday.

Despite the protestations of the former president’s campaign, the next Republican debate will take place in Miami on Nov. 8.
