Trump: FBI and DOJ To Review ‘Outrageous’ Jussie Smollett Case Because It’s ‘An Embarrassment To Our Nation!’

Calling it an “embarrassment to our Nation,” President Donald Trump tweeted on Thursday the Department of Justice and the FBI will be reviewing the “outrageous Jussie Smollett case in Chicago”:

All charges against Smollett, for allegedly staging a hate crime against himself, were dropped at the request of Cook County prosecutors. In exchange, he had to forfeit the $10,000 he posted for his bond and do 16 hours of community service over the weekend.

Joe Magats, the first assistant state’s attorney, told reporters that while they are no longer prosecuting Smollett, it does not mean they exonerated him.

While Cook County is no longer pursuing Smollett, the FBI is still investigating a threatening letter he claims to have received. The Chicago Tribune reports Chicago police Superintendent Eddie Johnson Smollett sent the letter to himself and then later staged the attack when the letter did not get the attention he wanted.

The letter’s message was made out of cut magazine letters and white powder that was later to be revealed as a crushed pain reliever. Smollett then reported the alleged attack a week later.
