WATCH: Trump Reassures Crowd That Border Patrol Agent ‘Speaks Perfect English’
President Donald Trump’s introduced a Customs and Border Patrol agent by prefacing that he “speaks perfect English” while at an event honoring the agency Monday in the White House East Room.
“Adrian come here, I want to ask you a question,” Trump said at the ceremony. “How did you — come here, you’re not nervous, right? Speaks perfect English.”
The president continued: “Come here, I want to ask you about that, 78 lives. You saved 78 people. So how did you feel that there were people in that trailer? A lot of trailers. Please.”
The incident occurred while Trump was hosting a White House event honoring members of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and U.S. Customs and Border Protection — “a Salute to the Heroes of ICE and CBP,” as the president put it. The president held the event amidst widespread criticism that ICE and CBP have faced and calls from progressives to abolish one or both agencies.
Trump also fanned the flames of that debate during today’s event, bragging that he had “already broken every record in the book” in regards to immigration enforcement.
