President Donald Trump warned serious consequences against Iran on Monday if they ever take action against the United States.
Trump spoke to reporters Monday afternoon while hosting Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban at the White House — saying, at one point, that “we’ll see what happens with Iran” amid recent developments.
“If they do anything, it would be a very bad mistake,” Trump warned. “I’m hearing little stories about Iran. If they do anything, they will suffer greatly.”
Trump’s comments come amid fears of rising conflicts between Washington and Tehran.
CNBC reports that there was a spike in confrontational rhetoric after the recent deployment of an aircraft carrier in the Persian Gulf. The White House said they wanted to send a message by increasing U.S. military presence in the area, and now some political observers are concerned about an international incident breaking out if the diplomatic channels with Iran aren’t strong enough.
