At 1:15 p.m. EST today, White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders will hold a briefing on all the latest administration news.
One of the main things the beleaguered press secretary will have to discuss is the indictment of ex-Donald Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort. He surrendered himself to the FBI this morning on charges of conspiracy against the US, money laundering, and false statements — an issue that the White House will certainly have to confront, especially after the president issued a false statement on the matter this morning.
Rick Gates, another former Trump campaign staffer, also surrendered to the FBI. He is a long-time business partner of Manafort’s and went on to the work for the inauguration committee and the RNC after the election, but was forced to resign over the Russia probe.
These latest developments into special counsel Robert Mueller‘s investigation into Russian tampering in the 2016 election are the first charges to be issued on the matter and put the issue in an increasingly serious light.
Additionally, FBI records were unsealed today revealing George Papadopoulos — a former campaign aid for the president — plead guilty after lying to authorities. His false statements include lying “about the timing, extent and nature of his relationships and interactions with certain foreign nationals whom he understood to have close connections with senior Russian government officials.”
Watch above via the White House. Start time is at 1:15 p.m. EST.
