Mike Huckabee got some attention recently for his comments about Democrats and the female libido. Huckabee was unfairly taken out of context at the time, but on Fox News Friday, he defended his invocation of the word “libido” and ended up talking about why he considers the human libido to be a wholesome, beautiful thing.
Huckabee insisted he was talking about “the equality of women,” and defiantly said, “I refuse to let the Democrats control my lexicon.” His invocation of the word “libido” was “just a colorful expression” and advised Republicans not to be afraid to “take the Democrats on” on this issue.
Cavuto asked if he would, in hindsight, have used the “libido” line. Huckabee said probably not, but then wondered exactly what the big deal is about that word in the first place.
“It’s a wholesome thing. God gave us sexual drive, it’s not something dirty and vulgar… It isn’t vulgar. It’s a wonderful gift from God, in the context of a relationship between a man and a woman who are committed to each other as life partners. That’s a good thing. There’s nothing unholy or untoward about that.”
