23 Arrested in Dozens of Overnight Raids by French Police as Manhunt Continues
Over 150 raids were launched overnight in France and Belgium as part of a manhunt for the still-missing suspect of Friday’s terror attacks, according to ABC News. Salah Abdeslam is the only suspect from Friday’s attacks still believed to be alive, after it was discovered that he was released after temporarily being stopped at the French-Belgium border.
According to the French Interior Minister, over 30 weapons have been discovered and confiscated by police in the raids. Molenbeek, Belgium is one of the prime centers of attention for police this morning, and the raids come just hours after France launched a series of airstrikes against the Islamic State’s stronghold territory of Raqqa, Syria.
“We understand that they are looking for the suspect in those attacks who managed to escape, Salah Abdeslam; his family lives right across this square,” reported NBC’s Keir Simmons from Molenbeek Monday morning. “This is the area where he comes from. His brother was arrested over the weekend. Another one of his brothers blew himself up in those Paris attacks. And there are people speculating — experts speculating — that this attack was planned here, the logistics were done here. It is a porous border between France and Belgium.”
