Satellite television provider YES is now the second Israeli video provider to drop CNN International, following in the footsteps of HOT (awesome name), which replaced the network with MSNBC back in 2011.
As TVNewser reports, YES (which also offers Sky News, BBC World, Bloomberg, and Fox News, among other news channels) has explained that the channel is simply too costly and that they will be looking into other news outlets.
CNN, meanwhile, is vowing to find a means of continuing to bring its news coverage to Israel:
CNN is looking into ways to continue bringing the channel’s news to Israel. It should be noted that the US elections are approaching, and in light of the ongoing dynamics in the region and the global events affecting all of us, there is a need for independent and objective journalism.
Israel Today notes that the network and Israel have “had their differences:”
Israel and CNN has [sic] their differences during the opening years of the latest Palestinian terrorist uprising, when the global news network repeatedly broadcast openly biased reports. But CNN hung on and remained a staple of English-language news consumption in the Jewish state.
YES currently controls about 39 percent of Israel’s multichannel content marketplace. It is slated to drop CNN on December 31st of this year.
