ABC May Try to Bring Back a ‘Version of’ Roseanne With the Rest of the Cast

ABC cancelled Roseanne this week over the racist comments from its star. But with the rest of the cast screwed over as a result, they may try to bring it back. Sort of.

TMZ first reported and CNN has confirmed that there are talks about a reboot centered around Darlene (Sara Gilbert):

Sources familiar with the situation tell TMZ … the powers that be at ABC are exploring the possibility of re-branding the show and focusing on the character Darlene instead of Roseanne.

We’re told Sara’s been calling cast members to gauge their interest in the event ABC gives the reboot the green light. We’re told John Goodman is “very interested.”

Barr has been very active on Twitter since the show’s cancellation, expressing her regret for her words while also retweeting supporters in seeming defiance.

However, there is the concern that bringing the show back would mean involvement of the now-fired star in some capacity:

A source confirmed [reboot talks] to CNN, but cautioned that any deal is complicated by Barr’s relationship to the show and Carsey-Werner. Depending on the terms of Barr’s contract, the production company may have to buy out her stake in the show.

Last night Barr tweeted, “I end by offering everyone involved one more apology and prayers for healing of our divided nation. Tomorrow is Shabbat and I will continue to pray that everything for everyone goes forward & ends well for all. signing off twitter for a while. love u guys!”
