During the panel round of ABC’s This Week, ABC News senior political analyst and former Bush/Cheney adviser Matthew Dowd took a few strong shots at Grover Norquist, calling the anti-tax activist an “impediment to good government” and mocking that the only good thing about the outspoken conservative is that he shares a name with a particular Sesame Street character.
“If there was some way you could inject truth serum into the water in Washington,” Dowd began, “they’d all know on both sides of the aisle … revenue has to be raised, and the only real way to raise revenue is to raise the tax rate on the wealthiest. It’s the only way.”
“Cuts have to be done. Including defense cuts,” he continued. “Everybody knows defense can be cut without hurting our security. They know entitlement reform has to happen. Both sides of the aisle.”
Then came the shots at Norquist: “But they also all know that Grover Norquist is an impediment to good governing,” he said. “And the only good thing about Grover Norquist is he’s named after a character from Sesame Street,” he joked to laughs all around.
“And that’s the last I hope we hear of him,” he concluded.
