Accuser Recants Underage Sexual Allegation Against Elmo Puppeteer
The man who accused Sesame Street‘s Elmo puppeteer Kevin Clash of an underage sexual relationship recanted that allegation on Tuesday, according to the law firm representing him. Clash had denied the claim and taken a leave of absence.
Andreozzi & Associates, the law firm representing the accuser, issued the following statement:
“This office represented the 23-year-old man who was the subject of many media reports regarding Kevin Clash. He wants it to be known that his sexual relationship with Mr. Clash was an adult consensual relationship. He will have no further comment on the matter.”
Clash responded to the news, through a spokesperson:
“I am relieved that this painful allegation has been put to rest. I will not discuss it further.”
As did Sesame Workshop:
“We are pleased that this matter has been brought to a close, and we are happy that Kevin can move on from this unfortunate episode.”
TMZ reported on Monday that the accuser contacted Sesame Workshop and claimed that he had a sexual relationship with Clash, beginning when he was 16. Sesame Workshop said they thoroughly investigated the charge and found it to be unsubstantiated. For his part, Clash denied the claim, deeming it defamatory. “It was between two consenting adults and I am deeply saddened that he is trying to characterize it as something other than what it was,” he said.
No word yet on when Clash will return from his leave of absence.
