As we reported earlier, actress Kelly Rutherford is in the midst of an international custody battle following a judge’s ruling that her two American children will move to France, because their father, Daniel Giersch — a European citizen — was expelled from the United States.
Mediaite founder and ABC legal analyst Dan Abrams sat down with Rutherford for an exclusive interview about her ongoing legal battle. Rutherford revealed that she is stunned by the ruling, but has been able to speak to her children on the phone and via Skype. She also shared that she feels she doesn’t know much about her ex, particularly concerning his immigration issues.
She said she enrolled her children in a French school in New York partially in an effort to help them forge a connection to their father. Meanwhile, her ex’s legal team is claiming that Rutherford had a hand in his deportation — a claim Rutherford denies, adding that it doesn’t help her or the situation with her children to have him deported from the United States.
She said that she was pregnant when this situation started, and could never have anticipated that it turned out this way. Abrams expressed his hope that an appeals court will step in and address the situation.
