Al Gore: GOP ‘Cowed into Abandoning’ Climate Change by Koch Bros.

Following Senator Marco Rubio’s (R-FL) comments on This Week with George Stephanopoulos, in which the potential 2016 candidate dismissed evidence of manmade climate change, former Vice President Al Gore told David Axelrod at an event in Chicago that the GOP had been “cowed” by various organizations and candidates into denying climate change.

“There is an enforced orthodoxy in the Republican Party,” Gore said at the University of Chicago’s Institute of Politics. “I don’t think it’s particularly complicated why they have all been cowed into abandoning that position. They will face primary opponent, financed by the Koch brothers and others who are part of their group, if they even breathe the slightest breath of sympathy for the truth about climate science.”

Gore pointed out that as recently as 2008, Senator John McCain (R-AZ) “ran on a platform acknowledging the climate crisis and making proposals to solve it.”
