Al Sharpton Angrily Denounces Ferguson Rioters: ‘This Is Not About You! This Is About Justice!’
During his powerful eulogy of Michael Brown, the Rev. Al Sharpton angrily admonished the rioters who grabbed the media’s attention in the days immediately following the 18-year-old’s death, rather than let the conversation focus on police brutality against the African-American community.
“Can you imagine?” Sharpton said, pointing at Brown’s family. “Their heart broken? Their son taken, discarded and marginalized? And they have to stop mourning to get you to discard your anger, like you’re more angry than they are! Like you don’t understand that Michael Brown does not want to be remembered for a riot. He wants to be remembered as the one who made America deal with how we’re going to police in the United States.”
“This is not about you!” he yelled, to thunderous, sustained cheers and applause. “This is about justice! This is about fairness!”
