Alec Baldwin was name-checked by Reince Priebus during the RNC chairman’s speech at a party meeting earlier today. And now the actor–and possible MSNBC primetime host–has responded to the RNC’s now-official boycott of any future CNN and NBC debates.
Baldwin reportedly said the boycott, which would go into effect if either network moves forward with planned film projects about Hillary Clinton, could cause more trouble for Republicans than Democrats. “If the RNC only lets Fox in, how will they tell the candidates from the reporters?” Baldwin asked, in comments made to The Wrap.
Earlier today, Priebus invoked the Baldwin-MSNBC reports as evidence that NBC’s news and entertainment divisions are not as separate as they let on. “The networks can talk all they want about the lines between their divisions,” Priebus said. “But the same week that people at NBC promised that NBC News was different than NBC entertainment are separate — that very same week they made that argument, they announced that they are giving a primetime MSNBC slot to Alec Baldwin.”
