Alisyn Camerota: ‘I Shudder to Think’ How Fox News Would Have Covered Obama Skipping Veterans’ Cemetery Visit

President Donald Trump‘s decision to bail on a visit to a WWI cemetery for U.S. veterans in France because of rain has many wondering what the right would say if former President Barack Obama Obama had committed the same act of bad-optic laziness.

On CNN Monday morning, New Day host Alisyn Camerota mused at what Fox News would have said if Obama had skipped out on the ceremony because of light rain. (Camerota was the long-time co-host for Fox News’ morning show Fox & Friends.)

“I shudder to think what would have happened if it had been President Obama, and the drum that Fox News would have beaten for weeks about a U.S. President being too soft to stand in the rain,” Camerota said. “Just the idea that we’re lowering a bar for a U.S. President that isn’t quite comfortable expressing any empathy.”

Ian Bremmer, president of the Eurasia group, said he isn’t surprised that no one bought the president’s excuse he was hindered by the rain.

“The president doesn’t do empathy particularly well,” Bremmer said. “So it’s not as if he was itching to show up at the cemetery and give his respects 100 years after the end of World War I.”

Bremmer added that summits with European allies are “kind of a no-win for this America First president.”
