It’s unclear so far what the motives of the Baton Rouge gunman were, but a relative of the young man triggered much anger and protest in the community has offered a statement in reaction.
Alton Sterling was fatally shot by a police officer weeks ago, and while there have mostly been peaceful protests in Baton Rouge, things with the police have gotten tense and three individuals were arrested for an apparent plot to shoot cops.
It’s unknown whether the individual who killed the Baton Rouge officers was motivated by Sterling’s death.
But Sterling’s aunt Veda Washington Abusaleh gave an emotional statement to CNN today saying, “We don’t call for no bloodshed. That’s how this all started, with bloodshed.”
She said she understands the pain the officers’ families are feeling today and cried three times, “Stop this killing!”
