President-elect Donald Trump has talked about wanting a better relationship with Russia, and CNN’s Christiane Amanpour today asked Secretary of State John Kerry if he has a point.
Amanpour brought up the reports of Russian interference and warnings from the Obama administration that Trump shouldn’t trust Putin too much, and then she asked this question:
“What’s wrong with trying to make a new relationship with Russia? And isn’t he right that it was bad under your administration? It just was a bad relationship.”
Kerry responded, “No, I don’t think that’s correct, in fact.”
He said that the problems they’ve had are things that “Putin has chosen to make a problem,” but also pointed to the Iran deal and the Paris climate agreement to tout how they have been working with Russia already.
Amanpour asked Kerry if those things are at risk under Trump.
