American Mourning: CNN’s Morning Show Has Worst Quarter Ever

CNN’s ratings have been low all year – really going back to the end of the 2008 election. But this quarter, the network’s morning show, American Morning, reached an all-time low in both total viewers and the A25-54 demographic.

It wasn’t the only CNN program in that category either.

American Morning launched in 2002, and has had several hosts during the past eight years. It currently is anchored by Kiran Chetry and John Roberts. The show was down 36% in total viewers and 29% in the demo year-to-year, the biggest drop of any cable news morning show by far.

While the program reached historic lows in both categories this quarter, it tied MSNBC’s Morning Joe for last place in the demo, with 113,000 (FNC was a clear #1, HLN was #2). In total viewers, FNC was first, followed by MSNBC, HLN and CNN.

Anderson Cooper and Larry King each had their worst quarters ever as well. Here’s more on Cooper’s ratings.

John King USA at 7pmET and Rick’s List at 8pmET had the lowest ratings during those hours in both categories for CNN since 2001.

As if there’s any need to remind CNN of this: Parker Spitzer launches Monday, Piers Morgan comes on at the beginning of 2011 and there’s a new boss now.
