Chuck Todd once again confronted Donald Trump on Meet the Press and appeared to get more and more exasperated with Trump’s false claim that thousands of New Jersey Muslims cheered on 9/11.
Todd pointed out that Trump has demanded “pinpoint accuracy” from the media––at pretty much every rally Trump has called the press “dishonest”––and asked, “Why shouldn’t we demand the same pinpoint accuracy in the claims that you make? Isn’t it hypocritical of you calling us out if we’re not calling you out when you stray from the truth?”
He repeatedly challenged Trump on that 9/11 claim, and Trump still insisted he saw it and bragged that many other people saw it happen and called/tweeted him to let him know that he’s absolutely right.
Todd shot back, “That doesn’t make it true!”
Trump said the cheering from Muslims happened “all around the world” so “why wouldn’t it have taken place.”
And when he again bragged about the people telling him he’s right, Todd really went off. He said, “Just because somebody repeats something doesn’t make it true!” He told Trump that he wouldn’t make a business deal based on tweets and hearsay.
“You’re running for President of the United States!” Todd cried. “Your words matter! Truthfulness matters! Fact-based stuff matters!”
Trump responded, “Take it easy, Chuck, just play cool.”
